Wilson's fame spread to America in 2014, when she appeared on Showtimes The Affair. She performed the role of Alison Lockhart, a young woman who has a difficult past and becomes involved with Noah Solloway. Wilson was awarded a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress of a Television Series in Drama 2015 together with Mauratierney as well as Joshua Jackson. Wilson said in British Vogue, "I loved getting to portray the character that has two sides to the tale." Noah perceives Alison to be this attractive, sexy and confident version. However, in reality, Alison views herself as unattractive. She continued: "I do believe America is moralistic and judgemental So what goes on in the show seems to be shocking." Wilson left the show which was a shock to fans. However, Wilson spoke in a very vague manner about further details. On the CBS This Morning Interview in August of 2018, Wilson stated, "I did want to quit, but I'm unable to speak about the reason why." Wilson started working in films later. She starred with the film of horror I Am the Pretty Thing who lives in the house in 2016 and then in the rom-com with a sci-fi twist How to Talk to Girls in Parties in which she played the mysterious PT Stella. In order to add more horror films to her credits list, she will star in a British film adaptation of The Little Stranger. This supernatural thriller is based off a novel written by Sarah Waters. Wilson is also in charge of the production.
